FILTERS

The first rule for sizing pool equipment for any pool is.

Size the filter to the pool.

Depending on the size and type of filter

will determine what size pump is to be used.

 There many types of filters.

  • Sand Filter: Pretty much to preferred type due to ease of cleaning
  • Cartridge: Less expensive, no backwash valve but requires taking unit apart to clean several times per year. Doesn't filter out visible algae.
  • DE: Much higher degree of filtration. Has backwash valve. DE is dangerous to user in dry form. Can't expel DE off your property or into sanitary drain. NON-DE media is available for slightly higher cost. I am not discussing DE filters on this website due to high filter pressure required to operate this type of filter. High filter pressure means higher energy cost to operate.

TWO filter types are used

This is what we don't want. A tiny cartridge filter that is hard to clean and not really useful for pools.
