Lighting can set the mood and ambience for the pool area. There are many types of LED lighting fixtures to choose from. LED lighting only uses a fraction of the electrical power yet produces equal illumination.
The light below is a low voltage, full size pool light using a Pentair Vinyl liner nitch. The 300 watt white light is uses 68 watts of power and is powered by a listed pool safety transformer
The above is a Pentair brand, p/n 62004. The light is a standard 10" size pool light You can use low voltage or high voltage. Use 3/4" or larger PVC electrical conduit to the approved light junction box. Mount the junction box more than 5" above the top rim of the pool and more than 5 ft away.
I prefer low voltage lighting 12 vac just so I don't have 120 vac near and around the pool and play areas.
See the NEC for placement and distances from the pool.
I use 3/4" PEX water tubing to run from the lighting junction box to the special safety low voltage transformer.
I also recommend "Listed" pool lights that have been tested to meet pool safety standards.
You might think that all low voltage lighting transformers are the same.
Unfortunately, there are BIG differences between garden lighting and pool lighting.
Only use transformers that include the wording
"Transformer for Swimming Pool Lighting" .... as well as a "Listing" mark.
Products with this description normally comply with:
NEC article 680.23(A)(2).
